Field Trippin’

The kindergarten classes had their last field trip today. We went to the Gulf Islands National Seashore Park and explored. It really is such a cool place that I plan on visiting again. Jackson stayed close to me holding my hand all day and leading me down the trails. I told him I was fine if he wanted to play with his friends, I’d be right there. He wouldn’t hear of it and gripped my hand a little tighter. After exploring, we had a picnic. When the kids finished their lunches they ran off to play. The adults hung back talking and watching them race and blow bubbles. Finally, it was time to head back and Jackson didn’t come and attach himself to my hand. I didn’t think much of it, figuring he was finally hanging with his friends. I was right. One of Jackson’s best friends is a sweet little girl in his class and they were bringing up the rear of the group. I slowed down so I could get behind everyone making sure we kept them all out of the road and to get a couple of pics of Jackson with his buddy. It wasn’t long before I realized my little hand holder had replaced me. Insert shocked dramatic gasp here. It is at this point that although I realize these two cuties are just buddies, and kindergartners hold hands, be it boys, girls, or boys and girls or whatever, this is foreshadowing. I will be replaced one day. It’s almost too much for a field trippin’ hand holdin’ Momma of boys to bear. Rest assured that next time I’ll hold on just a little longer and a littler tighter for as long as I am able.
