We Killed the Forfeit

I’m actually going out of order here posting this, but I’m afraid I’ll forget the story, and we can’t have that. The Pelicans had a game Saturday night. Let me start by saying that the Pelicans haven’t lost a game yet, and we only have one more after this. There isn’t a player on the team that isn’t good. There are two or three that are downright awesome, so, while we have dominated out there, most of the boys haven’t touched the ball much at all this season. Saturday, the two best players on the team weren’t there. In fact, we only had four players in the beginning, so we had to forfeit. They decided to let us play with only four, even though it was already down in the books as a loss. Best. Game. Ever.In the first half when it was only four, we let them get a little ahead. There was one kid on their team that couldn’t miss. He was draining threes. It was rough. I could tell some of ours weren’t used to being on the court non-stop. They were red-faced, sweaty, and hurting after only one quarter, but they never stopped, and never gave up. They were passing the ball and playing as a team. It was so awesome.Jackson made some shots. They all did! After half-time we had 5 players, but no one ever left the court. They were tired, but they kept going, and as the coach said, played like champions.Toward the end of the 4th quarter, we looked up and realized it was less than a 10 point game. They fought hard. Jackson made the last shot of the game…and it went in!!! We ended up losing 26 to 19. Definitely the best game all year.
