Growing Up in Pictures

20080713_4563 Christian is so cool about letting me take pictures of him. He hasn’t quite got to the age where he is completely disgusted with me and my camera, which is nice. He takes direction well, and never minds if I say, “Can you do that again? I didn’t get it.” And I say that a lot.
20080713_4628 We went outside last night to play for a bit after the sun went down. The gnats and mosquitoes weren’t bad, and it wasn’t too hot. Every move they make, I hear, “Mama, watch this!” or in Jackson’s case, “Mama, watch dis!” and it always makes me smile. I can vividly remember those same exact words coming out of my mouth a zillion times a day. The funny thing is, that doesn’t seem like it was 25 or more years ago, but just yesterday.
20080713_4629 Maybe that’s why I take so many pictures. One day, they will be grown and gone, and I’ll be thinking, wasn’t it just yesterday they were swinging on the swing saying “Mommy, watch this!” Twenty-five years gone in an instant, and I’ll be wondering how it happened. I guess I figure I will be able to go back and watch them grow-up over and over with pictures. Of course, minus the years where they can’t stand me or my camera. I wonder if my memories of my childhood will still be so vivid in my mind. I hope so. Maybe they will have kids of their own and while they are watching them swing and hearing, “Daddy, watch this!”, they will be thinking how it seems like just yesterday, and not 25 years ago, they were outside with us, hollering the same exact thing.
