Go Ask Your Daddy

Have you ever tried to explain static electricity to a 4 year old?
I stumble through some ridiculous explanation involving words like electrons and friction while trying to make sure it’s on a 4 year olds level. I mean, of course I know the definition of static electricity. I start dragging in some information about a balloon and your head, low humidity, and carpet shocking. Jackson looks at me like I have two heads. Then I start second guessing myself and wondering if I really understand static electricity at all. Maybe I should Google it. Is it a positive or a negative charge or am I thinking of magnets?  Wait, what were we talking about?

It’s a conversation that ends like so many we have when I am unable to give a clear, easy to understand definition of something my kids want to know… “Go ask your Daddy…” Don’t worry, I always follow it up with, “and if he’s a complete moron, too, come on back and we’ll Google it together.”
