And They Call Her Dixie

Before Christmas, our landscaping guy saw some horrible person dump a small boxer out on the road close to our neighborhood. He tried to get the tag number, and pick up the dog, but wasn’t able to do either. The pup started hanging around in our neighborhood and we all tried to catch her and feed her, but she was so scared, she wouldn’t let anyone get too close. One day, she got into my parents garage and they were able to get the door closed before she could make an escape. She had been out in the cold and rain for days and it showed. We went over to my parents, introduced ourselves and brought her home. She was very small, and very skinny. We just figured she was a very malnourished puppy. She came inside, climbed up on one of Lulu’s old beds and slept for two days. We all fell in love. We knew we couldn’t keep her, but we just wanted to make sure she was okay. We took her to the vet and got an almost clean bill of health. He said she could have been so small because of malnutrition, or having puppies too early and that although she would fill out more, she wasn’t getting any bigger. She also had a mild case of heart worms.  We knew we had to get her fixed and treated before we could find her a good forever home. She rotated from staying with us to staying with Donna and Glenn, but we got her back on Christmas Eve. Christian was barely awake Christmas morning and was giving her love. Fergie was only a little jealous.I put this next picture up on Facebook along with the story, and before I knew it I had quite a few people wanting her. They wanted to give her a forever home regardless of whether there were treatments involved. A friend of mine that lives in Baton Rouge was in town visiting family. They had recently lost one of their pups and wanted to bring this sweet girl home. Jackson was able to give her love until they came over to meet her. They brought the whole family, including their dog, just to make sure that it was going to be a good mix, and it turned out that it was. The kids had already decided to call her Dixie. She rode home with them that day all the way back to Baton Rouge. That night, I got a picture from my friend of her youngest son asleep with Dixie curled up right next to him. We fell in love with this sweet dog. I’m so glad she found such a sweet family to love her and give her that forever home she deserved. How can you not fall in love with this sweet face???
