Field Day

Pecan Park’s Field Day was the week before Spring Break. I loved Field Day when I was this age. We had the freedom to roam the school playground all day long, eating sno-cones and occasionally having a tug of war, long jump, or 3-legged race. Christian’s Field Day is at Greyhound Stadium. It’s much more structured, much shorter, and much more organized. Oh, and there are no sno-cones. Classes compete against each other and we are never really sure which class won. Nobody minds.20090401_44191Sack races are always entertaining. Majority of the kids end up like this.20090401_4421Andrew may look like he has it all figured out here, but he spent a lot of time on the ground, too. By the end, he just ran with these little steps instead of hopping. It worked!20090401_4645

In the weeks leading up to Field Day, each class raced to see who would compete in the 50, 75 or 100 yard dash. They did the 100 yard dash first. Christian won, so he ran the 100 for Field Day. I was pretty impressed thinking, wow, he’s the fastest in his class. He set me straight pretty quick.  He may or may not be the fastest in his class, but on this day, they blew the whistle and no one took off. Christian did! Unfortunately, that meant he had to race the other fastest kids from each class, one of which is the fastest kid in the school. He was on Christian’s football team last year, and he can fly. Christian wasn’t disappointed in the least when he didn’t win. He knew nobody could beat Ethan!
