New Year’s Eve has changed a lot since we had kids. It used to mean lots of parties, or a trip to New Orleans. I should have seen change coming, after all, the first New Year’s Eve after Christian was born we celebrated the new Millenium while I was breastfeeding a 1 1/2 month old. Can you say change? These days, we always stay home, maybe cook dinner, and always shoot some fireworks. No need in being out on the road with all the amateur drunks, or without the kids. We have our own little party, and this year was no different.
It was pretty hard to get pictures out in the dark without using flash, but I just had to share the one above. This is what most of the night was like. Light it on fire, then run like hell. The younger kids had “sprinklers” as Christian used to call them, and Jackson was all about it.
Emmy liked them, too, although it was hard to convince her not to hold them too close to her head.
Emma wanted to light the big ones, but we convinced her to stick with “sprinklers” too.
While this may not be the New Year’s Eve from 10 years ago full of parties and going out ’til all hours, it is ours, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Happy New Year!!!
