One of the many things the boys love to do over at MawMaw & PawPaw’s house is walk around and look at their flowers, Christian more than Jackson. He wants to know names of plants, if they were raised by seed and why we don’t have them in our yard. Christian was quick to point out that we had never received the Yard of the Month tulip like MawMaw & PawPaw had once or twice. It’s this big, yellow, wooden tulip that says Yard of the Month on the front and has been floating around our neighborhood for the past couple years. While big and yellow sounds like something I would be into, the tulip is not something I’m hoping will grace my yard eventually. It’s not that we wouldn’t appreciate the honor and all, but at this point, it’s kind of like being Student of the Month in a class of 20 kids in the 12th month, ya know? Basically it screams that our yard is average. We’ve secretly been waiting for the big yellow tulip that has Not too Bad for a Couple of People who Hate Gardening and at Least they Put Away their Garbage Cans and Mow the Grass in a Timely Manner Yard of the Month painted on the front. That’s much more our speed. Poor Christian, destined for a life with slacker gardening parents and hopes of a Yard of the Month award in his future. Awww, come on, life’s full of disappointments, we had to start somewhere!
