Mississippi, My Home

The 4th grade had their “Mississippi, My Home” program today. Scott and I decided to go to both the morning and evening performances because, well, we don’t want to miss a thing. Christian’s first grade teacher informed us as we went in that Christian told her he wasn’t going to be in the production. I was wondering what I was doing there and why this morning before he left, he asked for a red, white or blue shirt. Turns out, he just didn’t volunteer for a part like most of the others but was still in the chorus. There is nothing in this world that my child hates more than singing in front of people. If they did away with the music program altogether, he wouldn’t bat an eye, unlike his mother who made the choir in elementary school, only to be kicked out after skipping too many rehearsals… oh wait, maybe he’s more like me than I realize. We watched Christian sing all the songs with only a slightly pained look on his face, yawning occasionally for good measure. We made a family decision, after a quick consult with the teacher, to forgo the evening performance. We figured they would get along just fine without him.
